Thiago Barbalho’s The Spirit’s Journey # 01, 2025, joins the permanent collection of Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Brazil.
Inaugurated in March 2013, the Rio Art Museum (MAR), Brazil, promotes a cross-sectional reading of the city’s history, its social fabric, its symbolic life, conflicts, contradictions, challenges, and social expectations. Its exhibitions unite historical and contemporary dimensions of art through long-term and short-term shows, both local and national in scope. The museum also opened the School of the Gaze to uphold their mission of integrating art into public education.
The Museum is interested in the connections and cross-sections between Rio de Janeiro and the world, collecting objects and documents from those who passed through the city and left their history as an integral part of this place, or with traces and memories that represent the city. It is the first art collection conceived for the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
Thiago Barbalho will be exhibiting in a duo exhibition at Elizabeth Xi Bauer’s Exmouth Market location later this year.
