We are delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed artist Oswaldo Maciá to the Elizabeth Xi Bauer Studio in Deptford as part of our ongoing artist residency programme. Maciá is currently working in the studio over a two-month period, developing a new body of work in preparation for his upcoming solo exhibition, which will open on 4th December 2025 at Elizabeth Xi Bauer’s Exmouth Market Gallery.

Maciá’s practice is rooted in the relationship between our natural environment and our social fabric. His multidisciplinary approach embraces sound, smell, sculpture, and image-making, allowing him to render the natural world in uniquely multisensory forms. During his time at the Deptford studio, he will be producing a selection of drawings, exploratory acoustic sculptures, and paintings that reflect his ongoing research into natural environments across the globe. This residency offers a focused yet flexible space for the artist to experiment and reflect.

Oswaldo Maciá’s relationship with Elizabeth Xi Bauer began with his participation in the 2023 group exhibition É a lama, é a lama, which addressed the climate crisis through diverse artistic lenses. His return to the gallery for this residency reflects our shared commitment to fostering sustainable dialogues with the environment through contemporary art. The residency programme at our Deptford space supports both national and international artists, offering them time and freedom to evolve their ideas in a supportive and creatively vibrant setting.
