Conceived as a cultural laboratory, New Oradea Contemporary Art (NOCA) aims to bring together modern and contemporary art, established and emerging artists, innovative ideas, and bold experiments.
Housed in a glass-walled building on the banks of the Crișul Repede River, NOCA is the city’s first centre devoted to contemporary visual art and one of the few venues of its kind in Romania.
Inaugurated with the group exhibition A Sphinx, Beast and Girl; Unicorn, Chimera and Mixed body, curated by Suzana Vasilescu and Cristina Vasilescu, brings together the artists Apparatus 22, Vioara Bara, Ștefan Bertalan, Alex Bodea, Ana Botezatu, Michele Bressan, Rudolf Bone, Christian Jankowski, Marta Jakobovits, Ciprian Mureșan, Miron Schmückle, Ion Țuculescu, and Ecaterina Vrana.
This exhibition explores a hybrid and fantastical imagination, creating a dialogue the playful and the monstrous, as well as between local art and the broader European art scene. The work Private and Public (2025), by Marta Jakobovits presents a 33-meter-long pilgrimage as a dialogue with nature.
A Sphinx, Beast and Girl; Unicorn, Chimera and Mixed body continues until 21st February 2026.
