Sara Hildén Art Museum, Finland, recently opened Vastamaalattua (Freshly Painted), bringing together young visual artists, primarily from Finland, whose practices centre on painting. Showcasing contemporary approaches to the medium, the exhibition features works by emerging artists, including Karoliina Hellberg’s Nightly Lilacs (Raatihuoneenkatu) (2026).

Hellberg’s work is exhibited alongside artists Emma Ainala, Milla Aska, Siiri Haarla, Taru Happonen, Kaisa Huotari, Juliana Hyrri, Annamaari Hyttinen, Eveliina Hämäläinen, Essi Kuokkanen, Raana Lehtinen, Eeva Lietonen, Emma Luukkala, Iisa Maaranen, Elin Odentia (Sweden), Melina Paakkonen, Sirkku Rosi, Kerttu Saali, Johanna Saikkonen, Riikka Sormunen, Astrid Strömberg, and Ebba Svensson (Sweden).

Painting has been a focal point in the Sara Hildén Foundation’s collection since its inception in 1962, and the Sara Hildén Art Museum’s exhibition programme follows developments in contemporary painting and reflects them through the works in its collection.

Coinciding with the exhibition, the Sara Hildén Art Museum have published an illustrated catalogue featuring text by Anna Tuori, a painter and artist included in the Sara Hildén Foundation’s collection.

Vastamaalattua (Freshly Painted) at Sara Hildén Art Museum continues until the 30th August 2026.
