Elizabeth Xi Bauer and Bloomsbury Publishing were thrilled to celebrate with art historian, comedian and debut author Verity Babbs on the book signing of her new release, The History of Art in One Sentence: 500 Years of Art (But Funny).
An evening filled with laughs and art history insights, Verity Babbs spoke with Jo McLaughlin, Host of Jo’s Art History Podcast, art historian and contemporary curator, about what inspired the publication and discoveries art history revealed during Babbs’ research and writing process.
The History of Art in One Sentence: 500 Years of Art (But Funny) is an intriguing read, covering 50 Key Art Movements from the past 500 years, one sentence at a time.
The evening took place at Elizabeth Xi Bauer’s Exmouth Market Gallery during the duo exhibition We Lost Lots of Beautiful Things, featuring Jandyra Waters (Brazil, 1921–2025), a pioneer of Brazilian abstractionism, and contemporary UK artist Theodore Ereira-Guyer (b. 1990).
