The Garden of Unearthly Delights

To mark the inauguration of our first permanent exhibition space, Elizabeth Xi Bauer is pleased to announce a programme titled 3 x 3. Curated by Maria do Carmo M. P. de Pontes, it consists of a series of three presentations where one gallery artist is exhibited alongside two guest artists, under different conceptual frameworks each time. There is a will to gather artists from diverse backgrounds and ages, thus valuing cacophony over sameness.

Opening on 22nd July 2021, the first display brings together Theodore Ereira-Guyer, Hamish Pearch and Manuela Ribadeneira to explore the botanical realm. The second edition of the programme, scheduled to open in September, takes Abraham Kritzman’s paintings and sculptures as a starting point to analyse how architecture informs artistic practices. We finish the year with a display of paintings by Cătălin Marius Petrișor Hereșanu alongside artists who turn their gaze to mythologies.

This initial programme sets the tone of the gallery’s new stage. Founded in the summer of 2015, Elizabeth Xi Bauer has since acted as a catalyst for our represented artists by using temporary locations to boost their work. With a permanent space, we aim to continue to promote them while welcoming new artists, emerging and established alike, favouring group shows that foster dialogues among different artistic sensibilities. Our name itself, Elizabeth Xi Bauer, is an international fusion much like the spirit of our upcoming programme of exhibitions
